Tiruchirappalli
Regional Engineering
College – Science
and Technology Entrepreneurs
Park is organizing a
‘One-Day
Workshop on Innovation
Valuation and IPR Issues’
on the 25th February
2007. This Workshop
is planned as a pre-conference
event to ISBA 2007-
the Annual Conference
of the Indian Science
& Technology Entrepreneurs
Parks and Business Incubators
Association, to be held
on 26th & 27th February,
2007 at ICRISAT, Hyderabad.
The workshop shall be
a unique event intended
to facilitate knowledge
sharing on the vital
issue of Intellectual
Property Protection
and Commercialization
of Innovations.
STEPs and Incubators
are a new genre of organizations
for Innovation convergence
in our society with
Innovators aspiring
to be successful entrepreneurs
or wanting to provide
innovative solutions
to industries, continuously
walking in. Incubation
Managers involved in
technology venture promotion,
handle innovative ideas
on a day-to-day basis.
So far, Incubators have
been helping Innovators
with venture incubation
support, covering the
seed stage and some
parts of the growth
stage, but in the case
of IP Companies, may
have to cover the full
spectrum of growth.
Until recently STEPs
have seen through Companies
which catered predominantly
to local markets, but
with the opening of
the economy and globalization,
new opportunities for
global market reach
and potential, has become
a distinct possibility
for Indian Incubators.
With Incubatees reaching
out to global markets,
IPR becomes an important
tool, for which skills
are yet to be honed.
In this situation, Business
Incubators, usually
being the first point
of contact for the Innovator,
must be able to provide
the right direction
on gaining competitive
advantage through the
protection of intellectual
assets. It has become
critical that Business
Incubation Managers
clearly understand the
process for Valuation
of the Innovation and
in addition, also discern
the process of converting
an Innovator into an
IP Company and the role
played by IPR in the
process.
The day long workshop
shall have 3 presentations
from eminent Experts
in the field and will
culminate in a panel
discussion. The Workshop
shall be more interactive
and seek to clarify
burning issues on IPR
through discussions.Ample
time is allocated for
Q & A sessions,
in order for it to be
more learning oriented
and Incubation centric.
